Tour Overview

Day 1

Arrival - City Tour

Arrival, meet and transfer to the hotel. After breakfast at the hotel start the tour driving along Abovyan Avenue. Drive to Matenadaran, the depository of ancient manuscripts, enjoy the panorama of Cascade monument. Visit Cafesjian Center for the Arts which contains marvelous collection of glass, painting, sculpture, print and drawing. Lunchtime tasting Armenian traditional food. Proceed to Opera House visiting the roundabouts: State Conservatory, the Monument “Men” in the Saryan Park, named after the outstanding Armenian painter Martiros Saryan. The monument is devoted to a famous Armenian film called “Men”, and then visit Lake Swan, Monument of Aram Khachatryan, William Saroyan, Arno Babajanyan, Hovhannes Tumanyan. Later proceed to Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Park visiting the Genocide Museum. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.
Day 2

Yerevan - Echmiadzin - Metsamor - Zvartnots - Yerevan

After breakfast at the hotel start the tour to Echmiadzin, the holy city of Armenia. Visit the Holy See of Armenian Catholicos, Echmiadzin with its main Cathedral (4th c.), St. Gayane (7th c.), St. Hripsime (7th c.), St. Shoghakat churches (17th c.). All of them are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunchtime tasting Armenian traditional food. Continue the tour to the city of Metsamor with a visit to the Metsamor castle which was inhabited from the 5thmillennium BC till the 18th century AD. Visit the Museum of History and Archeology opened in 1968. The museum contains about 22000 items unearthed in the fortress and the burial grounds dating from the Early Bronze Age to the Middle Ages. Drive back to Yerevan with a stop at the ruins of Zvartnots (7th c.). The latter is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.
Day 03

Yerevan - Artashat - Khor Virap - Areni - Sisian

After breakfast at the hotel start the tour to the historical city of Artashat with a visit to the Artashat fortress which is of great archaeological value. Drive to the 17th century Khor Virap monastery, which is famous for its deep dungeon where the first Armenian Catholicos was kept for long 13 years. Lunch in Areni tasting traditional Armenian dishes and delicate and gentle Armenian wine. Recent archeological expeditions in Areni have unearthed the oldest winery in the world, thus proving that the village, and consequently the country, has the oldest traditions of wine production. Drive to Sisian. Dinner and overnight in Sisian.
Day 04

Sisian - Karahunj - Ughtasar - Khndzoresk - Goris

After breakfast at the hotel the start tour to Karahunj or Stonehenge. This astronomical observatory is older than the Stonehenge in Britain. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Drive to Ughtasar which is one of the most important archaeological findings in the Republic of Armenia. The territory around the mountain and the mountain itself is famous for various petroglyphs. The latter are pictures depicted on black and grey stones of volcanic origin. You can find circles, spirals, spots, lines and other geometrical and abstract forms, as well as figures of animals and human beings, the hunting, cult and cosmos of the primeval person, flora and fauna in all its richness on those stones. Drive to Khndzoresk, a cave village. Proceed to Goris. Dinner and overnight in Goris.
Day 5

Goris - Mozrov Caves - Noravank - Yerevan

After breakfast at the hotel start tour to Mozrov Caves one of the little known natural wonders. This deep cave, rich in diverse geological formations, was discovered quite recently during the construction of the Mozrov village road. The cave is not fully explored yet. For your safety, it is advised that you experience this beauty with the supervision of a local guide, because some parts in the cave are unstable. Anyway, the wild beauty of this cave is worth admiring, as no computer graphics can make a picture even similar to the picture drafted by the nature itself. Proceed to the gorgeous Noravank passing through high picturesque rocks. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes in a cave café, watching lavash baking in the underground oven called “tonir” near the cave. Drive to Yerevan. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.
Day 6

Yerevan - Saghmosavank - Hoghmik - Agarak - Yerevan

After breakfast at the hotel start the tour to Saghmosavank which was once a religious, academic and cultural center of medieval Armenia. The soft brown color of the walls harmoniously merges with the surrounding nature. The sheer rocks of the Kasakh river gorge make the whole panorama more complete. Continue the tour driving to Hoghmik with a stop at Metsamor famous for the metallurgical and astronomical center (4,000 to 3,000 BC). Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Visit the city of Agarak, the Bronze Age open-air temple. Visit the 6-7th centuries Harichavank monastery situated on a cape of ravines and rivers. Drive back to Yerevan. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.
Day 7

Yerevan - Erebuni Fortress - Garni - Geghard - Yerevan

After breakfast at the hotel visit Erebuni Fortress which is built on top of Arin Berd hill. It was a strategic military center and a royal residence erected in 782 BC. Now the Erebuni Museum protects numerous excavated items. Drive to Garni. Visit Garni pagan temple which is a wonderful piece of Hellenistic architecture and the only surviving pagan temple in Armenia. Lunch tasting Armenian traditional food and watching the process of baking lavash in a traditional underground oven called “tonir”. Proceed to the magnificent monastic complex Geghard, which is inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage Site. Return to Yerevan. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.

Transfer to the airport. Departure
